Accor, a global leader in hospitality, has strengthened its presence in Nigeria with the signing of a management agreement for Novotel Victoria Island Lagos. The deal, signed with Nigerian conglomerate Ekulo Group of Companies, will bring the Novotel brand to Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos, further cementing Accor’s expansion across the country.

The 170-key Novotel Victoria Island Lagos, set to debut in 2023, will offer a modern and stylish experience, strategically located in the city’s financial district. This addition will bring Accor’s total footprint in Nigeria to 1,642 rooms across 14 properties, with seven properties currently in operation and another seven in the pipeline across MGallery, Mantis, Grand Mercure, and Pullman brands.

Strategic Expansion in Nigeria

Speaking on the agreement, Mark Willis, CEO, Accor Middle East & Africa, highlighted Nigeria’s potential as a key market for the brand:

“We are delighted to sign this agreement with Ekulo, which marks another milestone in Accor’s Africa growth story and builds on the success of the Novotel brand in Nigeria and other key destinations across the region.”

He added:

“We have identified Nigeria as one of the continent’s most important development markets, with Lagos and other strategic locations, including Abuja, presenting huge growth potential for Accor’s unrivaled portfolio of hospitality brands.”

A Premium Destination in Victoria Island

Located on Ahmadu Bello Road, Victoria Island, Novotel Victoria Island Lagos will be at the heart of Lagos’ business and financial hub, close to major banks and multinational headquarters. The 170-room hotel will offer premium facilities, including:

•400 sqm of meeting and event space

•A swimming pool and gym

•Three dining venues: An all-day restaurant, a lobby bar, and a poolside bar

The property is designed to be a vibrant meeting place for both business and leisure guests, positioning itself as a stylish and comfortable destination for corporate meetings, events, and social gatherings.

Part of a Larger Pipeline

The signing of Novotel Victoria Island Lagos is part of Accor’s broader expansion strategy in Nigeria, which gained momentum in 2018 with agreements to manage MGallery Ikoyi and Pullman Ikoyi.

Beyond Novotel Victoria Island, six additional properties are in Accor’s Nigeria development pipeline, including:

•125-key Art Hotel, set to operate under the Mantis brand

•Grand Mercure Abuja

•Mantis ARM Lakowe Lakes

This expansion reflects Accor’s commitment to maintaining its market leadership in Africa, where it has operated for over 50 years. The Group was the first international hotel company to enter the African market in 1975, starting with Mercure Ismalia Forsan Island in Egypt.

Accor’s Market Leadership in Africa

Accor currently holds the largest market share of any hospitality group in Africa, with:

•24,566 rooms across 157 properties in 22 countries

•A pipeline of 10,882 rooms in 52 hotels

As the longest-serving international hotel operator in Africa, Accor’s growth strategy is focused on expanding its presence in major cities while filling market gaps across its 30+ hospitality brands.

In line with its Planet 21 sustainability program, Accor is also investing in conservation-led projects that promote sustainable development across Africa. Through its partnership with Mantis, which it acquired a 50% stake in 2018, the Group plans to develop over 28 eco-resorts and hotels across the continent.
