MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, a leading petroleum marketing company majority-owned by Nigerian oil mogul Sayyu Dantata, has reported a profit of N6.51 billion ($4.2 million) for the 2024 fiscal year, marking a significant increase from N4.048 billion ($2.6 million) in 2023. This growth underscores MRS Oil’s resilience in Nigeria’s volatile energy sector, as it successfully navigates inflationary pressures and supply chain challenges.
Revenue Surges as Demand for Petroleum Products Grows
MRS Oil experienced a 71% revenue increase, soaring from N182.3 billion ($117.3 million) in 2023 to N312.23 billion ($200.9 million) in 2024. This growth was primarily driven by strong demand for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), alongside strategic supply chain optimizations that helped the company maintain its profit margins despite rising operational costs.
The company, which operates across West Africa, including Benin, Togo, Cameroon, and Côte d’Ivoire, is a key player in petroleum product distribution, lubricant blending, and grease manufacturing.
Sayyu Dantata’s Influence in Nigeria’s Oil & Gas Sector
Sayyu Dantata, a half-brother to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, holds a 60% majority stake (205.73 million shares) in MRS Oil through MRS Africa Holdings. His strategic leadership has positioned the company as one of the most influential players in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, making MRS Oil a top attraction on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), where it ranks 53rd.
Strong Financial Position and Asset Growth
The company’s total assets nearly doubled, rising from N54.8 billion ($35.3 million) in 2023 to N105.43 billion ($67.8 million) in 2024. Meanwhile, retained earnings increased to N28.32 billion ($18.22 million), up from N22.44 billion ($14.44 million), reflecting MRS Oil’s ability to expand profits while effectively managing costs.
Outlook: Positioned for Continued Growth
MRS Oil’s strategic efficiencies and ability to navigate economic headwinds highlight its resilience in Nigeria’s energy market. With demand for petroleum products expected to remain strong, the company is well-positioned for further expansion in the years ahead.
As Sayyu Dantata continues to solidify his legacy in the oil industry, MRS Oil remains one of Nigeria’s most promising energy firms, delivering strong returns for investors and shareholders.
