Nigerian business leader and philanthropist Sir Emeka Offor has announced a major $5 million pledge to The Rotary Foundation to support the fight against maternal and neonatal mortality in underserved Nigerian communities. The donation, made through his Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF), will help scale up life-saving healthcare interventions across high-need regions.
Speaking on the commitment, Offor emphasized the importance of investing in maternal and child health as a cornerstone of national development. “Ensuring that mothers and newborns receive quality healthcare is one of the most impactful ways we can secure a healthier, more prosperous future for Nigeria,” he said. “This partnership with Rotary allows us to build on proven strategies and expand reach where it’s needed most.”
The contribution will bolster Rotary’s ongoing maternal health program, which has already delivered significant results—including a 20% reduction in maternal deaths and a 28% drop in neonatal mortality in pilot regions. The funding will help train more health workers, improve access to prenatal and delivery care, and strengthen local health systems.
Rotary Foundation Chair Mark Maloney praised Offor’s generosity, noting that the donation comes at a critical time for maternal health efforts in Nigeria. “Sir Emeka’s support will enable us to deepen our impact and bring sustainable change to vulnerable communities,” he said.
Offor, who is Executive Vice Chairman of the Chrome Group, has a long-standing record of philanthropy across Africa. His contributions include major support for polio eradication, educational development, and healthcare infrastructure. This latest pledge further solidifies his legacy as one of Nigeria’s most dedicated humanitarian leaders.
