Sam Darwish, the U.S.-Nigerian telecom mogul and Founder/CEO of IHS Towers, has added nearly $12 million to his net worth in just one month as shares of the telecom infrastructure giant rallied on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). His personal stake in the company now sits at $56.21 million, up from $44.45 million, reflecting a wave of investor confidence in IHS’s long-term fundamentals.

Darwish owns 3.9% of IHS Towers—12,921,750 shares—cementing his place as one of the most powerful figures in global telecom infrastructure and one of the most influential African executives on Wall Street.

IHS Towers Surges 26.74% in One Month

IHS shares have soared by 26.74%, rising from $3.44 to $4.35 between March 10 and April 10, pushing the company’s market capitalization to $1.45 billion. This marks a critical rebound after months of volatility, much of it triggered by macroeconomic pressures, including currency fluctuations in Nigeria—one of its core markets.

Since the start of 2025, IHS shares are up 48.97%, reflecting renewed optimism around the company’s growth trajectory and strategic direction.

A $1.6 Billion War Chest and Global Expansion

Founded by Sam Darwish in 2001, IHS Towers is now the third-largest independent telecom tower operator in the world, with over 39,000 towers across Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. In Q1 2025 alone, the firm has added 385 new tenants, secured 1,566 lease amendments, and built 207 new towers—136 in Brazil, further deepening its presence in the Americas.

To support its global push, IHS recently secured $1.6 billion in fresh capital through a dual-currency syndication and bond issuance, helping the company fortify its balance sheet amid ongoing market turbulence.

Despite foreign exchange headwinds—especially from the sharp devaluation of the Nigerian naira—the company continues to show strong operational performance, even as revenue dipped 19.5% year-on-year to $1.71 billion in 2024.

Darwish’s Wealth Gains Signal Long-Term Confidence

The recent surge in IHS shares has added $11.76 million to Darwish’s stake in less than 30 days. Between January 31 and February 26, his stake had already grown by $5.88 million, from $41.94 million to $47.83 million. The continued upward trajectory highlights the market’s faith in Darwish’s leadership and IHS’s long-term vision for connectivity in emerging markets.
