Landmark Group, in collaboration with the Rivers State Government, has announced plans to transform the iconic Port Harcourt Tourist Beach into a world-class leisure, hospitality, and tourism destination.
This ambitious redevelopment project was disclosed in a statement by Elsie Ogianyo, Brand and Corporate Communications Manager for Landmark Group, and comes as part of the company’s broader expansion strategy across Africa. The announcement follows CEO Paul Onwuanibe’s recent revelation of Landmark’s entry into two African countries, three Nigerian states, and the relocation of its headquarters from Lagos.
Reviving a Historic Destination
The once-thriving Port Harcourt Tourist Beach is set to undergo a complete overhaul, blending Landmark’s international expertise with local knowledge to create a state-of-the-art waterfront resort. “We are excited to create unmatchable and unforgettable leisure experiences in Port Harcourt,” said Onwuanibe.
“This project is not just about reviving a historic site; it’s about building a legacy that showcases the best of Rivers State, drives socio-economic growth, and establishes the resort as a must-visit destination in Africa,” he added.
Government Backing and Socio-Economic Growth
Rivers State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Israel Lebura Ngbuelo, expressed full support for the initiative, underscoring its potential to position the state as a top tourism destination in Africa. “This redevelopment will not only transform Port Harcourt but also stimulate economic activity, create jobs, and attract global tourists,” Ngbuelo remarked.
Landmark’s Vision for Tourism in Africa
This project aligns with Landmark Group’s mission to redefine leisure and hospitality in Africa. By repurposing underutilized spaces and creating innovative tourism hubs, the company aims to drive economic transformation and enhance Africa’s global reputation.
With construction set to begin soon, the revitalization of the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach promises to breathe new life into the city’s waterfront and contribute significantly to the development of Rivers State’s tourism sector.
